Looking for the Blog-Worthy Moment

I had lunch with a girlfriend this week (the Avenue Grill - yum!), and heard myself say during the conversation that I’m always on the look out for the blog-worthy moment. I like that. I feel like when I’m “looking” and practicing some awareness in my days, my life, my thoughts and/or my relationships I “see” God, His hand, His will more in my everyday.

Even the lunch with my girlfriend is evidence of His love, faithfulness, and joy in my life. I’ve known her for over 20 years and, though we don’t see one another with near the regularity that I’d like, our relationship is as lovely, lively and affirming now as it’s ever been . . . even though we are such different people now than when we met partying, broke and thoroughly confused but thinking we knew it all in college.

Looking back like that, I can’t help but see God’s faithfulness. Honestly. I was so stupid and young to be embarking on motherhood, marriage and the like . . . and yet, in spite of that, today we’re having a baby shower for my first grandchild and my youngest son is taking his SATs with college before him. Not unto us, with our limited, selfish, unwise selves, but to You, with your infinite compassion, mercy, and grace, be the glory, because you just can’t help Yourself but to demonstrate Your love. (My paraphrase of Psalm 115:1, Not to us, O LORD, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness.)

I have to admit that sometimes it’s painful for me to think about some of the decisions I’ve made . . . I’m not proud of some of the things I’ve said and done, but all of that and me equals today, this moment as I also reflect upon God’s faithfulness and supernatural ability to bring goodness into all things.

So there we sat; two friends at lunch. And as I looked into her familiar face, untouched by the 20 years that have passed since I first gazed upon it, I was reminded, yet again, that life is full of blog-worthy moments if we but fix our eyes to find them.

Peace and blessings,
