Tangled Up

I spent the last several days on tour with Dave LeMieux and House of Soul in Memphis. We had a blast! Memphis is a great place . . . it’s all bar-b-que, blues, and beer. My kinda town! We had the honor of singing at one place or another, ranging from St. Jude’s Hospital to King’s Palace on Beale Street. I just love doing what God has enabled and called me to do. And, while I was very much in engaged in all things Memphis, I still felt close to home . . . one of the benefits of text messaging.
On Saturday as we rehearsed in preparation for that night’s performance, I’d receive periodic updates from my husband about my youngest son’s game. My hubby would, with lightening fingers, tell me score information and play action, which left me feeling like I was, in part, there. And, although the mighty Grandview Wolves tasted defeat, it was still so nice to be a part of the weekend football experience that has been woven into our family’s culture. I was just a “press send” away.

Upon my arrival back home yesterday, I found a letter - an old fashioned, postage stamped letter - waiting for me from S. Africa. It was from a young lady that I met there when I visited around 3 years ago. Our meeting was fleeting but profound . . . she addressed her letter to me with the word “Mom” as she went on to give me an update as to what was going on in her life now. After reading it, I felt connected and a part of her present experience, though she lives a world and several time zones away.
The truth is, we are all connect. Yes through technology, phone calls, letters and such . . . but more through the love of God that reigns throughout this world.
Romans 8: 38, 39:
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
I’m reminded of that old Gospel song that the mothers in my Granddaddy’s church used to sing . . .”Wrap up, tied up, tangled all up in Jesus . . . Hallelu, hallelu, hallelujah!” Hey, maybe we need to add that to the Dave LeMieux and House of Soul repertoire??
Peace and Blessings,
Nicole Walters
