God’s View

Yesterday was the second anniversary of Katrina and there were several television shows commemorating the event. Each story seemed to focus on illness, high crime, depression, homelessness, and the slow rebuilding of homes. There was also a story featuring the children of the storm and how they have been progressing in the past 2 years. Oddly enough, considering all the devastation, crime, hopelessness, and neglect, these young kids seemed to continue dreaming and striving to have fulfilling lives. Many of them faced tremendous obstacles, in the face of challenge they continued to move forward, even if it seemed they were doing so facing backward.
I’m fascinated with people who seem unstoppable in their pursuit and fulfillment of purpose. It seems easy even natural to give up when the odds are clearly stacked against you. In yesterday’s blog I talked about the world’s view and God’s view. The world’s view is limited, while God’s view offers infinite possibilities. That is the unique characteristic about people who continue to thrive when roadblocks show up. Their faith opens the road to infinite possibilities. For those who are willing to keep seeking, keep asking, keep trusting, keep believing, keep working and keep praying, something new is certain to be revealed.

This requires commitment. How committed are you to revealing the promises of God? When life seems hard or mundane, do you continue to trust and believe all things are working together for your good? Do you live your life believing all things are working for you and nothing is ever against you? Do you trust God is benevolent, even in the center of the storm?
I have experienced both aspects of myself, the part that believes eternally and the other…. Believing God is a practice and way of life. Finally when the big event happens, the Katrina of your life, our practicing has prepared us for the performance. If we’ve dedicated ourselves to our practice until it becomes a way of being, during the performance we can simply be ourselves. This is the difference between mediocrity and greatness. Those of us who co-create greatness have probably faced the greatest obstacles; it’s likely one after another. They have learned to fall down and get back up again. They don’t give up when a roadblock presents itself, they turn and go another way, trusting God will direct them to the goal.
Katrina for most is a horrific story of death, loss, neglect, abandonment and abuse. And then there are those who are rising out of the ashes like the phoenix. They will not be stopped or beaten. The one who maintains hope and possibility has God’s view.
Matthew 19:26
Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.
