Letter to My Boys

There are new beginnings unfolding for you. New school year. New football season. New opportunities. New friends to make. New chances to take. New possibilities.
There will also be new temptations. New challenges. New disappointments. New heartbreaks. New struggles. New hurdles to overcome. New pitfalls to traverse.

Take courage, in all of this newness around you. Take courage because the old, ancient, steadfast, unfailing, and eternal presence of the Lord is with you, and His mercies, His unending mercies, are new everyday . . . whatever the day brings, whether joy or sorrow.
Lamentations 3: 22 - 26:
Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.” The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD.
I love you sons. My hopes and dreams for your lives are huge, brilliant, extravagant, limitless, infinite, and firm. The hopes and dreams of your God for your lives exceed even my own.
Psalm 139, 17-18a:
How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand.
I love you sons. I pray that your paths are straight, that you walk boldly, unapologetically, and humbly in your purpose, and that you shine fully the light of Christ within you. I pray that when questions present themselves, and they will, that you will know that you know that you know who you are, what you are here to do, and to whom you belong, and that you are steadfast in the expression of that knowledge - in the face of whatever.
Phillipians 3: 12-14:
Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
I love you sons. You have given me great joy; you have been a reason for gladness.
Proverbs 23: 24, 25:
The father of a righteous man has great joy; he who has a wise son delights in him. May your father and mother be glad; may she who gave you birth rejoice!
I love you sons. You, simply, rock! Now, Go Buffs! Go Wolves! Go! Go! Go! Go in school! Go in your communities! Go in power! Go in your walks! Go! Go! Go!
