Follow the Fire

Do you have a burning desire? Can you see yourself in the fulfillment of this desire? Maybe you desire to travel the world, create a business, marry and have children or purchase a home. Does this desire burn within your heart like a hot flame? Maybe you imagine yourself at a beach in Cape Town, South Africa. Or, do you envision the most beautiful state of the art kitchen in your new home near a lake? If your desire will bring goodness to yourself and the world, it’s likely God planted it in your heart, and every good desire comes with everything needed for divine fulfillment.

But you’re not sure how to execute the desire, who to ask for assistance and how to make it happen. You need funding for your business, time for your travel, or a man to marry, right? And you’ve tried everything you know to try, but no success. Time keeps passing, you’re getting older and your desire is fading because it doesn’t seem possible. Wait, just one minute, everything you need is in the desire itself. Creating something out of nothing but an idea is no small deed. It requires commitment, persistence, prayer and a vision. But the key is in the desire.

For years I’ve wanted to create something that would serve the wellbeing of my family and the world. I thought I’d fight firers. Literally, I tested to be a firefighter. After passing the written test, the physical scared me nearly to death. That flame was doused out by reality. I also had a desire to be an actress. I imagined myself being the one of the few black women to receive and Oscar for an outstanding performance. Once I realized what it takes to make it in Hollywood, I realized I wasn’t up for it. Today I realize these desires and so many more were not God given. I created them to fill some insecurity, a way to feel better about myself. But the desire to serve goodness on this planet just keeps growing bigger and bigger and bigger . . .

I have a burning desire to serve women, globally. I see myself as messenger of goodness and freedom for every woman and every household. Each morning I wake, thanking God for the seeds to serve him in the lives of all women. I feel the desire within me, and I feel ecstatic when I see the light of freedom and joy in a woman’s eyes. And I sit with how good it feels until it washes over my entire being. Then I ask God, how will you use me today? Sometimes an eternity will pass before I get direction, but inevitably an opportunity shows up and I know I’m on the right path. Life is good all the time.

When God gives you a desire, it won’t let you go. It lives in you and takes root in every part of you. The desire may not be easy to manifest, but it will be divinely guided and sustained. You will detect God everywhere. It’s easy and a distraction to believe we need to know the ‘who’ and ‘how’ of it; not so. All you need do is follow the desire. That feeling living and breathing deep in your soul, those seeds planted by God, will soon grow roots, branches, leaves and blossoms. You’ll find yourself in places surrounded by people who know exactly how to assist your vision. You’ll meet people eager and happy to invest in your desire. Allow the desire to lead, and people and places you’ve never noticed will be your ticket to its fulfillment.

Psalm 20: 4-7

May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed. We will shout for joy when you are victorious and will lift up our banners in the name of our God. May the LORD grant all your requests. Now I know that the LORD saves his anointed; he answers him from his holy heaven with the saving power of his right hand. Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.

I believe we all have a desire to be what God intended for us. It may be covered with guilt and old stories of lack and limitation. Never mind! The desire is still ready and good for harvest in the perfect season. Begin seeing yourself in the fulfillment of the thing. Pray for God’s love and guidance. Allow the flame of desire for this good thing to burn within you. Then wait for instruction. Wait for God to whisper direction and take heed. Your desire will lead you to the best you imaginable.

Peace and Blessings,
