Be. In the Moment

The other day as I passed by my dresser, I took a fresh look at one of the pictures that sits on its top.  It’s a picture of my brother and I engaged in a hug.  It was taken around three years ago.  He’s cute.  I picked up the small silver frame and peered at the woman smiling back at me.  God, look at my hair.  I was having a good hair day!  The funny thing is, I remember the day the picture was taken.  The thing I remember, in particular, was fussing over my hair because we were in California, and there’s something about the humidity, the wind, the sun . . . it’s too dark, it’s too long, it’s too big.    Good grief!

I laughed at how silly I can be, and how I can miss the moment I am in only to appreciate it retrospectively.

Psalms instructs us this way: This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.   This day, that is here and now, present and immediate, this is the one we should celebrate, embrace, appreciate, and cherish.  This day is the one we have, not yesterday or tomorrow.  This is the day I want to enjoy, to live, to thrive within.  This day, which may include big, unruly, but very cute hair.

That day, the one captured in time three years ago, is gone, as are my worries along with it . . .  and the opportunity to let my hair blow carefree in the California beach wind.  Shoot!

Peace and Blessings,
