What to Write . . . What to Write

So, I’ve been sitting in front of this laptop for around 20 minutes pondering what I should write about.  For 20 minutes I’ve been reviewing my day yesterday, thinking about what is ahead for today, recalling recent conversations, and remembering immediate plans, all with the intention of trying to find some blog worthy fodder with some measure of spiritual application.  I got nuthin’.

I have, admittedly, half-heartedly prayed about my contribution today and God has, not surprisingly, half-heartedly responded . . . He’s so clever.   See, as I was staring at my once blank screen, I was also playing the rough mix of the live CD we (Dave LeMieux and House of Soul) recorded last weekend in California.  The song that happens to be playing at this very moment is a beautiful one called Spirit Help Me.  Oh, the irony.

The truth is, I’m not smart enough, bright enough, talented enough or creative enough to fake the work that I attempt in Jesus’ name.  The truth is that without the Spirit’s guidance, presence, inspiration and strength, I can’t do much  . . . certainly not anything worth mentioning, and within an online magazine no less.  Spirit Help Me indeed.

It is at once humbling and exalting to admit one’s need of God.  Humbling because, let’s face it, there’s an amount of self-deprecation inherent in the admission of “need,” and exalting because when God is the fulfillment of that “need” then there is no lack, no wants, no void . . . only possibilities.   Such a delicate, delicate balance, this thing we do with Christ, isn’t it?

So, I guess today’s blog is about recognizing, accepting and embracing our need for God, in all things, and His ability, willingness and desire to meet that need, even if it’s in a tongue and cheek kinda way through iTunes in a song that you just sung a few days ago.  He’s so clever.

Peace and Blessings,

Nicole Walters

    Nicole,
I praise God for your calling, gifting and willingness to lead from an authentic place of dependence.
