The Needed Nudge

“You didn’t blog today . . .”

“Um, no I didn’t.  I had to sing near Vail today, remember?  It’s far and we left early.”

“Oh, that’s right.  I forget you’re so busy.  I’m so glad I didn’t text you about it.”

“Yeah.  Me too.”

That’s how the conversation went between me and Monique last night.  I simply called her to touch base after getting home, exhausted, sweaty and longing for a quiet night.  She, being ever so diligent over this magazine, just had to inquire about its maintenance.  It’s my week to write, and I didn’t.  It’s her job to see why.  I get it.  I’m so grateful for those relationships where the “check-in” is expected, encouraged and welcomed.

Every now and then, we need those gentle (and sometimes not so gentle) nudges that compel us to accountability, responsibility and integrity.

Hebrews 10: 24And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.

I need to be “spurred” when I’m distracted, discouraged or disengaged in my life’s goals.  And, if a spurring is what’s needed, then who but a friend can do that for you?  Obviously, if I’m in need of a spur it’s because I’ve lost my motivation somewhere along the way and can’t muster whatever gumption I need to sustain it.  But a friend, well she knows and sees the compromise . . . and loves you enough to say something about it.

Proverbs 27:6Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses.

After chatting about the day, our families, our husbands and our kids I got off the phone and thought about how our conversation began . . . you didn’t blog today.  I, not surprisingly, posted a little something about freedom, the Spirit of God and some other stuff.  It was a little post, but a post nonetheless.

A gentle nudge.  Thanks, Monique, for keeping me on track . . . about so many, many things in my life.  You, my love, are a true friend.

Peace and Blessings,

Nicole Walters
