On Your Left!

That’s what the man on the bike said to me this morning while I was on my walk.  “On your left.”  His statement startled the Bejesus out of me and I jumped and muttered something like, “oh, you scared me.” He politely smiled and rode on.  I giggled, and then thought of what a great blog entry our exchange would provide.  (I know, I know . . . )

Bike

Prior to my encounter with bike man, I was just walking along on my chosen path and taking in the usual sights and sounds of a typical morning walk.  The path that snakes through my neighborhood is very scenic and serene during the early morning.  Honestly, at one point on the path you would swear you are out in the country somewhere.  I typically use that time to pray, to dream, to listen to God and the birds He made as they summon on the day, so when I heard a deep voice bearing down on me with a tone of caution, well I jumped.  It was so out of place and shocking . . . but helpful and necessary.

If bike man hadn’t warned me that veering to my left would have caused an accident between the two of us, I most certainly would have gotten the worse end of that deal.  And, in truth, I’d rather be startled than injured.

I’m grateful for that inner voice of God that sounds the alarm and gives warning when we are tempted by confusion, fear, pride, or self to veer off of the paths He’s chosen for us and onto a road the leads to possible harm and compromise.  With regards to my purpose in God, my desire is to (even if it genuinely startles me because I believe I’m on the right track in ministry, in my marriage, at my job, or whatever and can’t even fathom the correction)  jump to the right and avoid the collision between my will and God’s - He wins that fight one way or the other every time.

On Your Left!  I heard it Lord.  Loud and clear!

Peace and Blessings,

Nicole Walters
